Okay, so if you tuned into #bikeschool last Thursday you would have seen me drop some pretty huge news.  To be honest, I wasn’t going to get into everything here on the website or anywhere else until it had already happened.  But the spirit and excitement of our weekly bike chat brought it out...

World’s Safest Commute Backpack

I have people trying to get me to promote their new cycling products all the time.  The majority are about to do a Kickstarter type launch and want sites like ours to help drive people to their campaign.  It’s tough to say no, because I’d really like to help out all these guys doing their thing to...

Paris From Four to Two Wheels

Cycle around Paris in the 1990s and you may well have found a police officer pulling you up to give you a fine. Fast forward to the present day, however, and that’s all changed. A concerted campaign by cyclists and ecological activists helped to transform the city into a more cycle-friendly destination. Since 2007,...

The Power and Happiness of Self Awareness

It hit me over 15 years ago.  The internal knowing that if I just completely be myself at all times, that everything else will all fall into place.  Best of all, I’ll feel a lot better in the process. I started working as a marketing rep for Costco Wholesale around 1995, and when I...

Keep on Riding with Superberries Aroniaberry+ Daily Wellness Shot

I was recently contacted by Superberries and I was asked to review the Aroniaberry+ product.  Superberries sent me the product free of charge and here’s what I have to say about it. None of us want to get sick and miss time on the bike, right? With all the germs floating around, how do...

A Vegas All-Nighter

If you know anything about me, you’ll know that I’m not much of a wild party type guy.  Yeah, I like to chill out most of the time and I get my adrenaline rush from cycling through the streets of Grenada and spinning for bonuses.  That is my idea of a wild party. But next...

Cycling and the Science of Happiness

I always talk about “Loving Life on and off the Bike”, but do you think it’s easier to be happy in all areas because of the fact that we ride bicycles? I came across an article last week called The Science Behind Why Cycling Makes Us Happier, and it sparked me to relate this...

A Cyclist and the Food Waste Fiasco

I’ve been telling you about an amazing individual named Rob Greenfield for the past couple of years now, and you’ve definitely heard me refer to him as “the Gandhi of our time“.  Well, this cycling friend of mine continues to spread his good word, and he just recently completed a Ted Talk that I...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
