Clear

It is one simple word, but something I use to get my mind back on track……on and off the bike.  Clear. I seem to get all up in my head way more than I should.  What I mean by that is I think too much.  Yeah, my head is always full of all sorts...

A Road Cyclist Enters the World of Cross Bike

Over the past few years, cyclocross has continued to grow in popularity and this type of cycling has definitely grabbed my attention.  But until now, it has always just been something that interests me. All over the world, there are road cyclists making the move to cross bikes (aka cx or cyclocross).  Some get...

United Kingdom: The Lake District by Bike

The UK is home to a myriad of National Parks, which is something I didn’t know until recently.  Many of the parks have something which makes them stand out from the others – the Yorkshire Dales has its rolling hills, the Peak District has its caves and Dartmoor has its forests.  As for the United Kingdom Lake...

What do you want to do before you die?  It’s the million dollar question, but how many of you have thought about it enough to know exactly what would go on your list? Some call it the “Bucket List”, others just call them goals.  Whatever you label it as, it’s the list that will...

How is Your Cycling Posture?

There are many things that can be done to improve your cycling performance, but one that is often overlooked is posture.  A cyclist might get a bike fit to ensure they are properly set up on the bike, but using the correct posture while riding will further help things out. How do you hold...

The Girl by Suzanne Deveney I spotted her late one night while heading home.  I was in my car, stopped at the red light when she caught my eye.  The light turned green and I needed to move, but she did not leave my thoughts. The next time I was on my bike I...

Pack On 20% More Weight, and Ride

Do you know what it feels like to ride a bike as someone heavier than you currently are?  Yeah, kind of a strange question. The other day I rode my mountain bike to Mocha Spoke and then from there I rode off carrying an additional 20 pounds of stuff in my backpack.  I rode...

#bikeschool is Circling the World

During the month of September, the #bikeschool twitter chat is going around the world by having a different “professor” from a different location each week.  It’s a great idea by our very own, Marty Boyd, who has been making sure the most awesome hour on Twitter continues to dominate and bring all cyclists together.  It...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
